The Asian Institute for Human Rights (AIHR) was established in 2006 with the goal of bridging the gap in facilitating learning based on a multi disciplinary approach to human rights theory and practice.
In furtherance of this goal, between 2005 – 2017, AIHR organised a number of learning programs in partnership with civil society organisations and universities, at the national and regional level.
AIHR also produced resources to facilitate learning on the theory and practice of human rights.
Since 2017, AIHR has focussed on using the eLearning approach to strengthen learning on human rights and social justice issues.
Funding constraints led AIHR to close its office in Bangkok in 2018. However, AIHR continues to function under the legal umbrella of the Human Rights and Development Foundation (HRDF), a registered entity in Thailand. AIHR is also organically linked to the HRDF.
AIHR now focusses on two main areas of work:
- Developing eLearning resources on human rights learning
- Curating learning programs on human rights praxis for other organisations.
The reports of workshops and learning programs organised by AIHR at the national and regional levels offer insights on the pedagogy adopted by AIHR. These reports can be accessed from this website.
